The
National Championship Air Races are in Reno, in September,
at Stead Airport. The races first appeared in Reno after
being relocated from Cleveland in 1964. Charles Maddox,
a local businessman, believed that such an event would draw
thousands of visitors to Reno, and he was right. Each year,
thousands of spectators participate in the Reno National
Championship Air Races, which is considered to be the longest
running air race in the world.
Stead
Airport is located ten miles north of Reno, and each year
it attracts ace pilots and is home to thrilling stunt-flying
and awesome vintage-era and contemporary flying machines
and demonstrations.
Pilots
qualify in four race classes: Unlimited, AT-6, Formula-One
and Biplane.
